Alloy for Night Sweats and Hot Flashes
I started my journey using Hormone Replacement Therapy in 2019 and have never looked back. I have however, over the years kept up on what's new and the companies that provide HRT, specifically those that offer it as a telemedicine option.
My biggest complaint when I started HRT were the night sweats. I would wake up at 3:00 AM drenched in sweat. I would keep a spare pair of pajamas on top of my dresser so I could find them easily when I was changing in the dark. It was not a fun time.
I was at a heavier weight than I'd ever been, I didn't feel like my happy-go-lucky-self and I felt stuck. I got lucky, when I realized a health-care professional I had waited three months to see also prescribed HRT. At the time I didn't appreciate what he could do for me, but boy, do I today!
My Alloy Prescriptions
I started the HRT process with My Alloy by going to their website and creating an account and completing the in-take form. Part of that process is that they do require an up-front fee of $49. That isn't really noted on their website, so that was a surprise for me.
On my in-take form they allowed me to request any specific products that I had interest in. I asked for the estrogen to be in a patch formulation and for my progesterone to be a pill.
In about two-days I received an email and was informed that I had been connected to a doctor and they had already suggested a therapy of products based on my symptoms and my in-take form. They had prescribed exactly what I requested and all I needed to do was confirm the payment, which I did.
The patch was $224.97 for a 3-month supply, the progesterone pills were free and of course that up-front fee of $49 meant that I had spent $273.97. I also opted to try their M-4 estriol face cream for $ 149.97 which again was enough for three months.
Does My Alloy take HSA or FSA Cards?
Currently Alloy does not take insurance. They do allow you to "attempt" to use your HSA credit card but do indicate that it's up to your HSA provider to approve or not approve the transaction, so it's best to have a back-up card available just in case. They accepted my HSA card with no issues!
M4 Alloy Face Cream and Review
I'm excited to try their face cream which includes estriol, one form of estrogen. The reason for the name M-4 is because it's a Mega, Miracle, Menopause Moisturizer! Its a custom blended estriol face cream for estrogen-deprived skin, per the ad in the packaging I received. Its a fragrance free restorative cream to address signs of aging like decreased collagen production, increased wrinkles and dryness.
Check back here in a month or so and I'll comment on my experience and if I'm seeing a difference in the lines and wrinkles around my eyes.
Why do we need estrogen?
Estrogen is important for the normal function of pretty much everything, including our brains, our bones, and our hearts. As we hit 50 (or thereabouts) and go through menopause, our estrogen levels dramatically decrease, affecting all of the above. Pretty major stuff. So, it makes sense that replenishing your body’s natural estrogen in small doses would help the function of, well, everything.
During menopause we lose up to 30% of dermal (skin) collagen in the first 5 years due to estrogen-deficiency and it decreases an additional 2.1% every year after!
Does My Alloy offer Testosterone?
I've been on HRT therapies that include testosterone, but Alloy currently doesn't offer testosterone which is a class III medication. It can be prescribed by a telehealth provider, but even that could change in the future.
What your mother-or anyone else-never told you about menopause
You may have heard that menopause is 100% inevitable. But did you know it's 100% treatable? For way too long, women have been told we have to grin and bear the many annoying, embarrassing, and even painful symptoms of menopause. There are a lot of reasons for that–sexism and ageism are two– but the bottom line is women deserve better.
