Online Hormone Replacement Therapy Process to get Started
I’ve tried Winona, Joi Women’s Wellness, Alloy, Midi Health and MyMenopause RX. Prior to trying any of these online providers, I was a patient of a local doc who I referred to as my diet doc. He also prescribed me HRT for a few years before I ventured out into the world of online HRT.
Winona and Alloy don't accept insurance and don't require a one-on-one consultation to begin your HRT Journey
Joi Women's Wellness, Midi Health and MyMenopause Rx will all require an initial consultation to begin your journey
MyMenopauseRx and Midi Health accept insurance for visits and medications. See their websites to see if your insurance is included
Joi Women's Wellness will allow you to use prescription insurance for meds but cost of visits and labs will need to be paid out of pocket with HSA or credit card
HRT initial Consultation fees
The cost for the initial consultation will range from $25, to $99 to $250 – Joi Women’s Wellness includes the $25 consult fee as part of the cost of required preliminary labs and bloodwork. My MenopausRx offers a discounted self-pay option at $99 and Midi is the most expensive at $250. In most cases, the cost of consultation will need to be paid for before or preauthorized by insurance before you can schedule the consultation. If you want more details on who accepts insurance and who doesn’t – see my video with those details my HRT experience over the past 5 years and which providers are willing to work with your medical and prescription insurance and which ones do not. Winona and Alloy don’t require a consultation, you can start by creating a patient account and then begin communication with their staff. Alloy does charge $50 to create the initial account.
HRT Consultation - How long will I have with my provider?
Joi Women's Wellness gives you a full 30 minutes as does Midi Health. MyMenopauseRX allows 20 minutes to complete your online telehealth visit. In most cases, you’ll likely have enough time to discuss your symptoms and concerns around HRT, but if you also want to discuss Weight Loss or the how you might get a prescription for Wegovy or Ozempic, be prepared to schedule a 2nd follow up visit, as you likely not get both covered in one visit. MyMenopauseRx encourages you to schedule two visits back-to-back, so you have time to discuss both, HRT and Weight Loss if that’s something you want to do. It’s still only $198 for two back-to-back consults which is less expensive than Midi. If you are using insurance, I’ve been told that insurance will not allow you to have two visits to the same doc in the same day, so again be prepared to split them up if you have more than one concern to discuss.
Have Questions and list of concerns/ symptoms ready
You’ll want to have your list of questions and concerns jotted down on paper OR as a note in your phone. It’s easy to get thrown off-guard and you don’t want to miss this opportunity to ask questions and clarify anything that you don’t understand. I have lots of videos and blogs where I’ve made side by side comparisons of online HRT providers, watch a few of them to further understand my experiences and what you might expect during your consultation.
Hormone Replacement Telemedicine Visit
The last item is to understand is that the doc is in charge and the appointment may go a different direction than you expect. I try to go into appointments with soft expectations knowing that the doc is the professional and they know best how to organize our time together. I figure they are the ones who conduct these appointments every day and who am I to tell them how to do their job? Your job as the patient is to be in a quiet setting where you can focus your attention, have your list of questions handy and be prepared to take notes if necessary. I find telemedicine actually allows us as the patient to be in an environment that is comfortable for us and that’s less likely to cause us to be nervous or anxious while with the doctor.
Hormone Replacement Therapy for Perimenopause and Menopause
Know that all the docs who prescribe and are passionate about HRT do really care and they want to help. It’s a partnership and if you go into it with that attitude, you should get out of your appointment everything you need and want!
