Joi Women's Wellness Hormone Replacement Review

Updated: Aug 18, 2024

My therapy consists of an estrogen patch, progesterone cream and testosterone injections.

My Experience using Joi Hormone Replacement Therapy

On April 9, 2024 I started Joi's HRT. I switched from another online provider, so Hormone Therapy isn't new to me, but using Joi was.

I had been on an estrogen/progesterone cream and DHEA pills.

Joi's therapy prescribed to me was:

  1. Estrogen Patch

  2. Progesterone Cream

  3. Vaginal Cream

  4. Testosterone Injections

See my full review of my products when they arrived.

Joi Hormone Cost

The total package for a three-month supply of my HRT was $567 or $189/month which is their all- inclusive program. The original order didn't include the vaginal cream and when I reached out asking if it had been missing in my original order, they indicated that it hadn't been prescribed, but because I was on the all-inclusive plan, they would have it prescribed and sent to me, at no cost!

When I first looked at Joi's plans, $189 per month sounded like a lot, but actually when I compare what the same products would have cost from any of the other telehealth bioidentical hormone provider, the cost would have been upwards of $327.00. Be sure you are comparing patch to patch, cream to cream and not a cream to a patch when you do your shopping. Also note, that Joi includes follow up bloodwork in the all-inclusive cost. This allows your HRT doc to monitor your levels and tweak your meds if needed.

Joi Pre-testing

I have a definite opinion about bloodwork and having levels tested. I'm all for it. I was a little put off when the first online company didn't want any bloodwork before they prescribed my meds to me. Rather than using the data from the testing to determine if the meds are working, or even what you need, they let how you feel and how your symptoms have changed or improved as the measuring stick.

Joi's process started with the testing. You choose which level of blood work, you want done, you put those labs in your cart, you pay for them, and they send you orders to go to a LabCorp or a Quest location to have the blood drawn somewhere convenient for you. I choose the Hormone + Metabolic + Thyroid Test for $ 249.00 (See coupon below for 10% off) My bloodwork took about a week for it to come back at which time, Joi sent me an invite and a link to schedule my 30-minute call with an HRT specialist/doctor.

I'm a data geek, I like the data. I was already on bioidenticals when I did my Joi blood test and even on those, Dr. Brook, my doctor suggested that I could feel even better with a bump in my estrogen, progesterone and with the addition of testosterone added to my therapy.

Many of the online providers that I've studied don't offer testosterone, but there are many, many benefits of testosterone when added to a women's HRT routine. The first doctor to prescribe HRT had me on a pill that included estrogen, progesterone and testosterone all in one pill. When I switched to the first on-line provider, they didn't offer testosterone, but suggested a DHEA pill to fill that gap. I never really understood that or bought into their reasoning, which is one of a few reasons I continued to search for a provider after finishing my three-month stint with them.

Estrogen patches, placed on your torso are switched out every 3-4 days.

Joi HRT Products

I was so impressed by my HRT specialist, Dr. Brook that when she suggested certain product formulations, I also didn't hesitate when she suggested some add-on's as well.

The HRT she prescribed to me, consisted of an estrogen patch which was a new formulation for me, but one I was really excited to try. It's small patch that I change out every 3-4 days. You peel off the film and place somewhere on your torso. A Progesterone cream, which I rub on the inside of my arms before bed and then my testosterone injections.

This is my first experience with testosterone injections. I give myself the injection one-time per week with an insulin type needle, which is very small and feels no different than a small prick. I reached out to Joi a few days after my initial order arrived and also asked for a vaginal cream. I've read and seen so much good that it can provide that I wanted to add this to my routine as well.

When I mentioned to Dr. Brooke that I had quit drinking and now had a huge, sweet tooth, she suggested we add a semaglutide (generic, compounded Ozempic) as well. She went on to explain how the semaglutide could help with hunger and food noise and that it could be just what I needed to get that last 12 pounds off. She said I could expect to lose up to 15% of my weight using the semaglutide along with my HRT.

The next day after my 30-minute call with Dr. Brook, I received an invoice with my HRT and semaglutide options. I opted to go all in. Joi requires that you purchase HRT in 3-month quantities, so all my products combined totaled $567.

Semaglutide and HRT for menopause Weight Loss

I also opted to purchase a 4-month supply of semaglutide which was $1049 or $263 per month. I've talked with other women who are spending almost $1000 per month on their GLP-1 injections, so I felt $263 was a bargain.

I've been on the injection for six-weeks and have lost eight pounds. WIN!

Joi Women's Wellness and Insurance

This provider doesn't take insurance, but they do encourage you to use your HSA card, which is how I got started. Most insurance companies don't cover bioidentical hormone therapy anyway, so it most cases, if that's the type of therapy you want (bioidentical vs. synthetic), you're likely going to have to pay out of pocket anyway.

So, how do I feel? Great! I'm sleeping well. My mood is good, and I'm not anxious. No hot flashes or Night sweats

At my two month follow up appointment I did bloodwork again. My blood work showed that my estrogen was on the high side of the normal range, my testosterone was middle of the range, but my progesterone was still low. I need the progesterone to oppose the estrogen, specifically for those of us who still have a uterus. So Dr. May made some adjustments in my therapy.

  1. My current estrogen patch is .5 and she wants to go to the .25 patch - so she ordered that for me.(No additional cost since I'm on the all inclusive plan)

  2. I'm to double the pumps of progesterone or if I want, I can change my therapy to a progesterone pill, which I'm still considering. As I've researched progesterone cream, I've learned it just doesn't absorb transdermally the same as estrogen does.

  3. For my testosterone injection, rather than doing it once per week, I'm to increase to twice per week. She said it has a half-life of four days and since my blood test was the day after and was good, we can increase the number of injections per week.

All in all, Joi seems to be the perfect therapy for me at this stage in my life. I couldn't be more pleased and being able to continue to work with a certified clinician with free testing and updates to any new products/dosages needed, who could ask for more?
