When it comes online Hormone Replace Therapy companies, there are four things that set one apart from another.

  1. Do they offer an initial in-person 1:1 Consultation and if so, for how long? What is the cost? Some providers offer free consults via Text Messaging in their patient portal, meaning you never actually meet with a doctor.

  2. Do they take Medical Insurance for Consultations? Is your insurance considered in-network or out-of-network? If you find you are out-of-network, what's your expected out of pocket for initial consultation and also for follow up visits.

  3. Do they offer to write FDA approved prescriptions that you can pick up at the pharmacy using your prescription insurance? If they are writing prescriptions that can't be picked up at your local pharmacy, what's the cost of the meds they are prescribing to you?

  4. Is the provider you are considering, licensed and can they write prescriptions in your state?

Is a 1:1 Consultation important to you?

Initial Consultation with Midi Health and Gennev

The first thing you need to understand about yourself is, having a 1:1, 30-minute consultation important to you? And is it important enough, that if you learn your medical insurance is out-of-network, are you willing to pay out-of-pocket for it?

Both Gennev and Midi Health give you a full 30-minutes to discuss your situation and any menopause symptoms you might be having. When is the last time your doctor allowed 30 minutes for you? Probably, never!

If you are new to Hormone Replacement and know that you have lots of questions and or concerns about starting Menopause Hormone Therapy, then either of these two providers are a good match for you. Check out their websites to determine if your medical insurance is considered in-network.

Consultation Fees

Assuming that your medical insurance is In-Network, then for both of these providers, your out-of-pocket will be whatever your co-pay and deductibles might be.

If you learn that your Medical Insurance is Out-Of-Network and you choose to go the Self-Pay option, here is where some of the differences will start to show.

Midi Health

Initial Consultation $250 (3 Minutes)

Follow-Up Consultations $120 (15 Minutes)

Gennev

Follow-Up Consultations $149 (30 Minutes)

Midi Health and Gennev Prescription Costs and expected Out-of-pocket charges

In the case of both of these two providers, they ONLY write prescriptions that can be picked up at your local pharmacy using your prescription insurance. You can assume the cost of the medications will be the same in either case, because it will be your prescription insurance that determines the final cost.

The first time I used my prescription Insurance for my medications, in lieu of working with an online provider who worked with a partner pharmacy was when I was working with Midi Health. My insurance was considered out of network, so I had to pay the $250.00 for my initial consultation.

I was prescribed an Estradiol Patch and Progesterone Tablets. Once Midi Health called in my prescriptions, I picked them up at my local pharmacy the next day.

  • Estrogen Patch (3 Month Supply) $205.99 Retail/$96.85 with insurance

  • Progesterone Tablets (3 Month Supply) $138.99 Retail/$111.32 with insurance

What I learned after this appointment is that had I used a Good Rx Coupon, I could have gotten both meds for $100.73 for a 3-month supply. Who knew using a GoodRx Coupon would be a better price than using my prescription insurance from my full-time employer? Before you head to pharmacy to pick up your meds, download the GoodRx ap on your phone and compare pricing so you know which will be best for you when you pick up your prescriptions at the pharmacy.
